
memory vs. memory is a lifetime performance collaboration between Ly Hoang Ly and Patricia Nguyen exploring freedom and subjection in the aftermath of communist revolution in Vietnam. Ly’s and Nguyen’s fathers were on opposing sides of the Vietnam War and were imprisoned by the same communist government in re‐education camps.

This performance sews together divergent histories of communist revolution, propaganda, and war in Vietnam to meet at the site of incarceration to heal through tea rituals. It sells the duo’s labor of memory to sustain their lifetime commitment to the art of memory work, inviting the audience to participate.
