El Hábito

Teatro Bar El Hábito was a cabaret/performance space in Coyoacán, Mexico City, founded in 1990 by Jesusa Rodríguez and Liliana Felipe. In collaboration with their theater cooperative, Las Divas, Jesusa and Liliana produced, directed, and performed hundreds of shows in their fifteen years at El Hábito. In 2005, they passed the torch to another cabaret group, Las Reinas Chulas, who changed the venue's name to El Vicio. Since its inception, El Hábito/El Vicio has been a hotbed for intellectuals, feminists, gay rights activists, and open-minded, progressive people wishing to be engaged by smart, critical humor. For the purposes of this module, El Hábito refers to those performances created and performed by Jesusa and Liliana in the extremely productive period between 1990 and 2005.

*Since 2005 Jesusa and Liliana have continued to produce work outside of El Hábito. Holdings for their solo performances as well as for performances created after 2005 can be found on the individual pages of Jesusa Rodríguez and Liliana Felipe.
