Artist Talk: Universes

Hemispheric Institute Artists-in-Residence Mildred Ruiz and Steven Sapp will talk about their 20-year career of creating art and culture in New York City, from the creation of The Point CDC, an award winning cultural center in the South Bronx, to the formation of the poetry theater ensemble UNIVERSES. Come share an evening with two New York City cultural pioneers.

Universes (www.universesonstage.com) is a multidisciplinary ensemble of writers and performers who fuse poetry, theater, jazz, hip-hop, politics, down home blues and Latin American boleros to create moving, challenging theatrical works. The group breaks the bounds of traditional theater to create their own brand, inviting old and new generations of theater crafters as well as the theater goers and newcomers to reshape the face of American theater.
