Presentation | Mexico's Invisible War on Journalists

Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries in which to be a journalist—second only to Somalia. Since 2000, more journalists and media workers have been killed in Mexico than during World War II or the recent U.S. invasion of Iraq.  We joined NAR Editors Lolita Bosch and Alejandro Vélez as they discussed the ongoing violence against journalists in the context of the so-called “War on the Narco” that has caused an estimated 150,000 deaths.

Nuestra Aparente Rendicion (NAR) is a multidisciplinary community that works for peace, respect, and understanding in Mexico and countries experiencing similar states of violence. The website nuestraaparenterendicion.com is the portal of this community, but its projects and initiatives extend beyond the Internet.

Lolita Bosch is a writer, journalist, professor and human rights activist, and the founder and coordinator of Nuestra Aparente Rendición. She writes in Catalan and Spanish and her books have been translated to several languages.

Alejandro Vélez is a researcher, professor and human rights activist. He is the editor of Nuestra Aparente Rendición’s website and co-editor, with Lolita Bosch, of Tú y yo coincidimos en la noche terrible.
