Wake-Up Call, 2015
Court sketches: Dulcina Abréu
I engaged in a month-long action for which I approached the Old Bronx Borough Courthouse as a dormant organism to be awakened after almost four decades of uninterrupted sleep. My role was to engage any possible room, threshold, column, staircase, and handrail in a conversation formatted as an improvisational edifice-body choreograph that referenced a despojo or limpia; a cleansing ritual. I did so by way of bitter and sweet herbs, spices, flowers, and water; all of them elements associated with curative processes.
Wake-Up Call was produced for When You Cut into the Present the Future Leaks Out, curated by Regine Basha for No Longer Empty.
